If you’re looking for proof that a wedding can be effortlessly cool, wildly colourful and completely personal, look no further than Sally and Seán’s brilliant Dublin city celebration. The couple tied the knot at the super-cool Hen’s Teeth with 60 of their favourite people, just an eight-minute stroll from their home. In fact, they love their neighbourhood so much that they had reached out to Hen’s Teeth “before we were ever actually engaged!” So yes, this was very much a wedding that felt like them from the get-go.

And what a day it was. Think a stylish, makeup-free bride, joyful Flowerpop blooms, custom cocktails, late-night spice bags for guests, the bride's granny flying over from Sri Lanka who, we’re told, absolutely “had a blast” and was “crushing the dance floor”. After their beautiful ceremony, Sally and Seán took a stroll around their beloved Dublin, stopping for a pint in Fallons and soaking up the congratulations along the way.

For these guys, the whole day was about one thing: “Party with people you love.” And honestly, that is exactly what this wedding delivered. From the relaxed morning getting ready at home to the family-style feast, sentimental ceremony readings, brilliant music and colourful details, every element felt thoughtful without ever feeling too serious. Captured with all the colour, character and joy of the day by one of our forever favourites, Katie Kav Photography, this is one seriously fun Dublin city wedding.

First things first, Let's found out how this lovely couple met. Both from Dublin, Sally and Seán’s love story began in the most modern of ways, with a Bumble match. Sally’s mam is originally from Sri Lanka, adding another lovely thread to their family story, but it was very much Dublin where this particular love story began. The pair started chatting on December 31st, 2019, and met in person just four days later for what was supposed to be a casual drink. Instead, they ended up on a pub crawl until 2am. “From the start, it felt like it was meant to be,” they tell us. They were soon seeing each other three or four times a week, and then, just a few weeks into their relationship, COVID-19 arrived. When lockdown began, Seán moved in with Sally, her sister and her partner for what they thought would be “two weeks”. Of course, that two-week stint stretched into more than two months, and later that year, the couple moved in together properly. “We have been obsessed with each other since the start!” they laugh.

When it came to the proposal, Seán and Sally had always made their big decisions together, so getting engaged was “very much a series of discussions rather than a huge surprise.” The proposal itself, however, was a different story. Seán had been planning a surprise, and the day after they’d been out at a gig, Sally tells us he was “practically dragging me out of the house” to ‘get some food’. After lunch in town, he suggested a walk in Stephen’s Green, one of their favourite spots. Knowing Sally would “hate anything public”, he found a quiet section of the park and even got her to “clamber over a little fence” to reach it!

And then came the sweetest part. Sally was “hugging a tree and talking to him about the boost that humans get from touching plants” when she turned around to find Seán down on one knee. He proposed, and before she knew it, Sally was on her knees in front of him, hugging him and saying “of course I would marry him!” They met Seán’s mam afterwards for a celebratory glass of wine — she just happened to be in town — before heading to Achara for an amazing dinner that evening. “It felt really special and very us,” Sally says.

Once they were engaged, Sally and Seán set about planning a Dublin city wedding with a small guest list, keeping the day centred around the things they love most. They live just an eight-minute walk from Hen’s Teeth and, having always loved their neighbourhood, knew they wanted to get married there. In fact, they had already reached out to the venue “before we were ever actually engaged!” They loved how Hen’s Teeth brings the local community together and puts on great events, and from their first conversation, the team made an instant impression. “Greg, Orla, Charli, Jessie and the whole team could not have been lovelier,” they say. “They make everything feel super easy, they give great support, and the food is incredible.” There was also “the best dancefloor”, which certainly helped clinch the deal.

From the very beginning, their priorities for the wedding were simple: “Great food, great drink, great music.” As two people who “live for good food and drink”, they knew these had to be “10/10” for their wedding. After tasting the options at Hen’s Teeth, “we were bowled over”, particularly by the family-style service. “It’s a very different meal to most wedding fare and we loved that.” They also loved how flexible the team were, from creating custom cocktails for the drinks reception, which Sally and Seán got to name after each other, to working with the drinks vendor to bring in wines they already knew and loved.

Sally and Seán also wanted the day to feel colourful and full of life, inspired by the natural beauty of May. “We are both people who love May for the fact that all the plants really come to life,” they explain. Their vision was for the celebration to feel “a bit like wildflowers bursting into life”, with colour at the heart of the day.

More than anything, Sally and Seán wanted the wedding to feel completely personal to them, and having vendors who understood their vision made all the difference. “The whole thing was really personal,” they say. Getting ready in their own home meant the excitement began from the moment they woke up, while some of the smaller details became incredibly special memories. One of the biggest wow moments came when Róisín from Flowerpop dropped off their bouquets and buttonholes that morning. “They were everything we had asked for and more.”

The fact that they were getting married in their own neighbourhood added another lovely layer to the day. They walked to the venue together, bumping into neighbours along the way and outside Hen’s Teeth, which “was so fun to us.”

On 2 May 2026, Sally and Seán celebrated their wedding day with 60 of their favourite people and they were married by celebrant Feargh Curtis. Their rings also brought together both sides of their heritage, with Sally choosing a ring by Dublin jewellery designer Chupi and Seán’s ring coming from Lalitha’s in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s most respected and trusted fine jewellery house. It was a beautiful detail that reflected the couple’s shared lives and the merging of their cultures.

The couple tell us Feargh gave them the freedom to build a ceremony that was entirely personal to them, which meant they put plenty of thought into every reading and piece of music. Their friends played a starring role too, with friend Emma reading the lyrics of All I Want is You by Barry Louis Polisar as a poem, friend Kate reading a passage from All I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton, pal Sophie reading Pablo Neruda’s ‘If You Forget Me’ and friend Barry reading Seamus Heaney’s Scaffolding.

“It was an opportunity for us to have more of our close friends involved in the ceremony but also to talk more about what love is to us,” they explain. And for Sally and Seán, love is ultimately about “having lots of fun, loving hanging out with each other, and choosing each other every single day.”

For the ceremony soundtrack, they chose The Beatles’ ‘Here, There and Everywhere’ for the aisle, a beautiful choice that made an already emotional moment even more special. “It made the aisle walk even more emotional than it was going to be anyway!” The Cranberries’ ‘Dreams’ played as they signed the register, followed by The Wannadies’ ‘You & Me Song’ as they made their way out at the end of the ceremony.

And when it came to the reception music, they deliberately skipped the traditional wedding band. “It wasn’t a priority to us and we knew we’d love having a great DJ for the dancing,” they explain. Choosing a DJ meant they could put the budget towards the things that mattered more to them, including custom cocktails and a late-night spice bag snack. Exactly the kind of personal touches that made the celebration feel so completely Sally and Seán.

They wanted a soundtrack filled with songs they genuinely loved to dance to, and their DJ, Graham, completely understood the assignment. After sending him some suggestions, “he really got the vibe right.” Sally describes their dancefloor as “effectively a return to Propaganda in the Academy in 2012, with some additional fan favourites.” And the proof that the playlist was a success? “I have never seen a group dance so hard to ‘Since U Been Gone’.”

The guest list included one particularly special arrival, too, as Sally’s granny travelled from Sri Lanka to celebrate with them. “She had a blast and was crushing the dance floor,” Sally says, which sounds like the perfect wedding guest!

The first time we spotted Sally’s effortlessly cool wedding look, we were blown away by how she made simplicity look so chic. When her photographer, Katie Kav, told us Sally had gone makeup-free for the day, we knew we had to feature this stylish bride! Sally opted for just a five-minute eye routine and a sweep of Clinique Black Honey, staying true to her usual style. “Not doing any ‘bridal makeup’ was definitely a big choice I made that ensured I felt like me.” Even her “tiny bit of eyeliner, eyeshadow cream and mascara” took a few practice attempts, but the pared-back approach paid off. “I felt really like myself the whole day.”

Sally wore the Sister Jane Petunia Bloom dress, sourced from Arnotts, with Dune shoes for the ceremony and Camper shoes for dancing. Her accessories were full of sentimental touches, including family jewellery, special earrings from Martina Hamilton gifted by her mother-in-law, and an Enibas ring from her sisters-in-law. She finished the look with a veil from Etsy and had her hair styled by Sarah Dowling Hair.

Bouquets by Flowerpop brought Sally and Seán’s colourful spring vision to life with bright, playful blooms that felt wonderfully wild, joyful and full of personality.

Seán looked effortlessly dapper in a light blue suit from Next, paired with brown suede Russell & Bromley shoes that he cleverly found in a clearance sale. He added a pop of personality with a colourful tie from Belfast Bow Company and finished the look with a gorgeous, colourful buttonhole by Flowerpop, perfectly tying in with the vibrant florals worn throughout the day.

Sally gave her bridesmaids free rein when it came to their looks, with each of them choosing their own dress and shoes in shades of red to suit their individual style. Seán’s groomsmen kept things equally relaxed, wearing suits they already owned and adding Next ties to bring the looks together.

If Sally and Seán had to sum up their wedding in a few words, it would be: “Party with people you love.” From the very beginning, the day had a relaxed, celebratory feel. Getting ready at home meant there was no rush or pressure, with Sally’s maid of honour Julianne arriving with pastries and pét-nat. As more friends arrived, the house got busier, while the girls’ room felt like “pre-drinks”, with everyone sitting in front of mirrors, chatting and giggling, while the guys got ready downstairs.

That easygoing atmosphere carried right through the day. After the ceremony, Sally and Seán took a quick wander to Patrick’s Park for some formal photographs, picking up plenty of sweet and funny congratulations from passers-by along the way. They then stopped for a pint in Fallons, where their photographer Katie gave them twenty minutes to themselves. It was the perfect little reset before they returned to the drinks reception, where custom cocktails, incredible canapés and plenty of mingling were in full swing.

They broke up the speeches between dinner, with some before the meal and some afterwards, while dinner itself felt “like just a big meal with your mates” thanks to the long tables and family-style servings. Then it was onto the dancefloor, with plenty of chats and dancing lasting well into the night, before they eventually “stumbled” their way home.

They also embraced the opportunity to give their favourite people a starring role, with a grand total of seven speeches. “Which was probably a bit mad,” they admit, but it was important to them that both of them got to speak and highlight how much their bridal parties, families and guests meant to them.

The décor followed the same colourful, unfussy approach. Hen’s Teeth already provided a vibrant backdrop, so they kept the styling relatively simple, adding paper pompoms overhead and the “most GORGEOUS florals from Flowerpop”, which Sally says really made the day. They also saved empty wine bottles throughout the previous year to use as candle holders, one of their favourite personal touches. Ultimately, though, much of the colour came from the people themselves. “Our bridal party and our guests brought a lot of the colour to the day too!”

Their first dance was, in their own words, “a bit rogue”. Knowing neither of them were particularly good dancers, they wanted something meaningful that they could turn into a suitably cheesy routine. After an evening at home listening through some options, ‘I’m Your Boogie Man’ was the clear winner. The song already had a special place in their relationship, as early in their dating days, Sally burnt her thumb one night and Seán distracted her by singing it to her while holding her hand under the cold tap. It has been a favourite ever since. As for the routine itself? They found a suitably cheesy YouTube dance and learnt it “the night before the wedding”! Luckily, it all came together on the day.

For other couples planning their wedding, Sally and Seán’s biggest piece of advice is to take the pressure off trying to create the “perfect day”. They planned their wedding with the hope that it would be a great day, but ultimately treated it “like a big party we were hosting”, making sure that having fun and giving themselves space to actually take it all in was central to their plans.

They also came up with a brilliant way to stop wedding planning from taking over their lives: “Wedmin Wednesdays” (love this!). Each week, they’d head somewhere “cheap and cheerful” for dinner followed by a few pints, then work their way through their list of jobs and decisions. It made planning feel much less like a chore, while also guaranteeing them a date night every week, particularly once things started to get busy.

For their honeymoon, Sally and Seán opted for a mini-moon, or perhaps a “midi-moon”, with five nights in Seville the week after the wedding. After months of planning, they wanted to relax, switch off and simply enjoy being newlyweds, while staying true to their shared love of good food and drink. “Seville felt like a perfect fit,” they say. They spent their five days wandering the city, sipping wine and enjoying each other’s company, with no big plans or pressure to be anywhere. While they’ll plan a bigger honeymoon further down the line, this felt like “an ideal break” after the wedding.
