Rebecca and Lewis married on 18th June 2025 at Barra Castle in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire. Rebecca was working at the venue at the time, so it was already a place she knew well and felt completely comfortable in, which made the decision straightforward.

They planned a colourful day that reflected their own lives rather than any particular look. Tables were named after NRL teams, a nod to something they both love, and many of the people involved were already part of their circle, from their florist to their cake maker. Their son Innes, who is five, walked Rebecca down the aisle.

Rebecca wore the Posie gown by MWL Bride, which she tracked down after seeing it online and returned to Ivory Grace in Aberdeen to try during a trunk show.

She made much of the décor herself, including the floral arch and table arrangements, working alongside bouquets by Oddbunch Flowers. Aberdeenshire photographer Scott Arlow captured all the joy of the day. Enjoy!

The Venue & Location

We got married at The Barn at Barra Castle in Oldmeldrum, Scotland. We have loved the big open space of The Barn mixed with the old rustic look of the castle for years now.

I was working at Barra Castle at the time so thought it would be the best opportunity to mix in a beautiful venue with a space that I knew, loved and we felt completely comfortable in.

Lewis hired his kilt from McCalls Highlandwear – he wanted to keep it as similar as possible to the traditional ‘Small’ tartan, so they picked the McKenzie modern tartan for him alongside a dark green tweed jacket which matched one that his late grandpa used to have.

The Ceremony

My son, Innes who is five, accompanied my down the aisle. We had a piper playing – he was a friend of Lewis’ and did a great job. He also played as guests entered and when we walked back up the aisle.

Our ceremony was led by Lorna Clarke of Ginger Deer Wedding Ceremonies. We wrote our own vows which was really special to both of us. We tried to keep them similar in length, but mine was definitely much longer!

Our rings were from Pandora (mine) and Etsy. We wanted to go together to get special wedding bands at a later date, so just got highstreet bands for the big day.

Photography

Our photographer was Scott Arlow. I knew as soon as I saw Scott’s work that he was the photographer for us. His photos were so beautiful, natural, dreamy and full of emotion.

We wanted photos that would capture the emotion and special moments of the day and he did just that. As part of our package we had a couples shoot two months prior to the wedding and it was a really great opportunity to get to know Scott better and have some fun in front of the camera before our wedding day.

Scott was a dream to have by our side throughout the wedding, I was so excited to see him in the morning of the big day and Lewis said as soon as Scott arrived he felt at peace and knew he would be looked after – and told where to go at the right time.

Having Scott as our photographer was the greatest decision we made for our big day and we would chose him over and over again if we could. He is such a sweet soul and incredibly talented man. He deserves all of the praise I can give him and I will always recommend him as a photographer to anyone.

Our videographer was a close friend of mine from university. Murdo and I studied Media together and have also worked on loads of videography projects together through our degree. Murdo’s background is sports videography, however I completely trust his eye for detail and fully believe that he is the best videographer that I know.

So I asked him as a favour and being the lovely guy that he was, he said yes. It also meant that we had another person that we knew by our side on the day and we were completely comfortable with him. He also got to join the rest of my uni friends for the evening reception and have a party after a long day of filming.

We also hired a Content Creator, Lois, from The Social You Seek. I had spotted Lois’ work when she first launched her content creation business and loved her style and vibe. She was actually one of the first suppliers I booked when we decided to start planning the wedding as I knew I just wanted her there to capture all of the special moments of the day. I later went on to start working for Lois right before the wedding, which made it even more special to have here there.

Lois is amazing at what she does, has such an eye and talent for capturing all of the special details that could otherwise go missed and is honestly the loveliest person I have ever met. It was so special to have her as part of the whole day, not only as a supplier but also as a friend. The videos that she captured I will treasure forever, alongside her friendship and part she played in our special day.

How They Met

We met in April 2017 on a night out with mutual friends and we have been together ever since! In October that same year we found out that we were pregnant with our first baby, Agnes and in April of 2019, when Agnes was 9 months old, we found out that we were pregnant again and this time with our boy Innes.

In August of 2019 while I was pregnant we were on a trip away together for a friends wedding in Glasgow. The night before the wedding we had met up with some other friends for a drink. While at the bar there was an acoustic singer playing and during his break got chatting to Lewis outside.

Lewis asked the singer if he could book him for his wedding when his friend pointed out that he wasnt having a wedding and wasn’t even engaged yet. Lewis told the singer to hold on, came back inside the bar and proposed. We had been together eight years on our wedding day.

The Reception

I really wanted to have loads of flowers as part of the decor, alongside a grounded arch. However we didn’t have the budget for one, so I started making and designing my own artificial flower arrangements. In the end I made a grounded floral arch, which was reused for along the top table. All of the table centre pieces and a variety of signage flower arrangements too.

I had loads of messages when I posted them online asking where I got them from, so I opened Yeah The Girls Floral Co. to start taking on custom orders! I have a few weddings booked in already and can’t wait to get to work!

Bouquets and buttonholes were supplied by Oddbunch Flowers. I met founder Olivia while I was working at my wedding venue – we worked on a couple of festive projects together. She has such a passion and talent for flowers that I knew I wanted to have her as part of my wedding in some capacity. I knew that bouquets would be such a huge focus for the day and I wanted them to be perfect and Olivia absolutely delivered. We had so many compliments on them and she went over and beyond my expectations.

Catering was supplied by The Market Cafe. Fiona is also local to us and is amazing, her food stole the show by far and we had so many compliments on it.

Our cake was by From Bakery Lane in Aberdeenshire. Founder Alice is an old school friend (can you see a theme here?!) and an amazing baker. She has made the wedding cakes for all of our friends weddings so far so it is almost another tradition between us to have Alice’s cake as the star of the show! We went for a lemon layer and a raspberry and white chocolate layer and it did not disappoint! We even managed to take some of it home to eat for the rest of the week after the wedding.

I designed all of the stationary myself. And for the welcome sign we made it together and handpainted all of the details onto linen. All of the table names were after NRL teams which I designed and made a collage of a selection of team photos for the bottom of the place cards. Table plan was handmade by lewis, he made a board with shelves using plywood and we added the table cards and faux bud vases to.

Evening & Dancing

Our first dance song was ‘Forever Afterall’ by Luke Combs. I am a huge country fan and this was just the song that I had pictured us having as our first dance song for years.

We had a ceilidh band, Iron Broo – which was a gift from my friend in Australia who couldn’t make the wedding – we really appreciated this. It meant that we could have a mix of a ceilidh and disco to please all tastes and keep it traditional!

Words of Wedded Wisdom

The day is all about you and your partner, your personalities and your own love story, so don’t be afraid to include little touches of your personality at any opportunity, even if it doesn’t fit the traditional wedding or Pinterest aesthetic. Having elements throughout the day that are true to you will make the whole day even more special and magical.

Also, don’t worry about things looking timeless (I stressed out a lot about this in the beginning!). Everything will eventually age but it just adds to the beauty of your day. You will never look back on your photos, videos or content and see old trends – you’ll just see the best day of your life and the most special memories.
