Welcome to the elegant wedding of Sophie Quish and David Smyth who hosted the most stylish midwinter black-tie celebration at Castle Durrow in Laois on December 12, 2025 - and we are obsessed!

Planned from afar, and with a baby in tow (they live in Dubai), Sophie and David's day featured a bespoke ceremony led by the bride's brother, a minimalist Alexandra Grecco gown and high-energy entertainment. Family-centred at its heart, Sophie and David traveled home from Dubai in midwinter with their ten-month-old son, Freddie. They celebrated their nuptials with 150 of family and friends in attendance and with Photographer Anna G capturing all the pretty details. Ready to hear this sweet couple's story? Limerick-born Sophie first met David, from Dublin, on a dating app, and they soon had their first date which was in Dun Laoghaire in South County Dublin, where David is from. "As for the proposal David surprised me with a weekend away at the Powerscourt Hotel Resort and Spa, so I already had a feeling something special might be on the cards," says Sophie. "As we were walking through a busy area, it suddenly hit me that he was about to propose and, in a complete panic, I actually blurted out, “No, please, no!” It wasn’t that I didn’t want to marry him—I was just totally overwhelmed and caught off guard." Thankfully, David knew exactly what she meant and the couple found a quieter spot with a bit more privacy, where he got down on one knee. "Of course I said yes! Looking back, it’s a story we always laugh about, and it definitely makes the proposal even more memorable."

Currently based in Dubai, the couple travelled back to Castle Durrow for the wedding, where they gathered the night before with friends and family. "I really just wanted a special day with my now husband and my beautiful baby. Having your 10 month old stay up the whole night the night before wasn't ideal but that’s even more reason to have fun on the day," says Sophie.

Sophie wore a stunning, minimalist gown by Alexandra Grecco, sourced from The White and Gold bridal boutique in Dublin, completing her look with classic bridal shoes from Next, a bespoke cape tailored by The Sewing Studio Limerick, and statement earrings by By Alona. She had polished, elegant makeup by Sarah Dineen Bridal and a flawlessly styled updo by Hair by Elaine Kavanagh.

David and his groomsmen looked exceptionally sharp in classic black-tie attire from Protocol Menswear on Dawson Street, Dublin. David completed his look with a personal Rolex timepiece.

The bridesmaids looked effortlessly chic in sophisticated black gowns from Six Stories.

The ceremony was held within the historic walls of Castle Durrow and stood out as the most emotional and memorable part of the day. Sophie’s brother, Colm Quish stepped into the role of celebrant, moving the room from tears of joy to roars of laughter, while The Dublin String Quartet set a beautiful, traditional tone for the procession. Musician Stephen Kelly also performed "Half the World Away" which was a satirical song he wrote specifically about Sophie and David's relationship timeline, which had the entire room in stitches.

"I loved the clean, timeless look that the black tie dress code brought to the day, so I kept the styling all quite minimal, with an abundance of white flowers, black bridesmaid dresses and simple, understated stationery and signage throughout," says Sophie.

Following the ceremony, guests were treated to a lively drinks reception featuring signature margaritas, warming mulled wine and a live saxophonist to kick off the party early. Although it was sunny and bright all day, due to the wedding being midwinter it was pitch-black dark by 5pm, which made for a very romantic, special settting.

After dinner, Sophie and David shared a first dance to "Dreams" by The Cranberries, paying homage to Sophie's Limerick roots. The dance floor stayed packed for the rest of the night, powered by DJ and Sax.ie.

Asked what advice they would you give to other couples planning their day, Sophie says: "Plan for what you want and don’t worry too much about the small details. It’s one day only so enjoy it!"
